Eyes are one of the most effective and precious sensory organs we have and they should be taken care of. But, how often do we really give them a break? Not very often. Because, who has the time? Washing your eyes with triphala water can help you keep the “windows to your soul” healthy.
Hours of glaring at the computer screens and layers of eye makeup day in and day out take a toll on our eyes. It causes headaches, dark circles, puffy eyes, dry eyes and sometimes, a blurred vision. Washing your eyes with triphala water is a great way to rejuvenate them, combat problems like dark circles and puffy eyes and make your vision bright and clear.
Using Triphala Water for Eyes
Triphala is an Ayurvedic herbal powder made of three main components, namely amla, bhibhitaki and haritaki. Triphala water helps proper functioning and health of your eyes because these ingredients help in purifying your blood and helping the muscles around the eyes to function optimally. Here’s how you can use triphala water for proper functioning and health of your eyes.
Making Triphala Water
To make it, you will need triphala powder and water. In two glasses of water, mix two tablespoonfuls of triphala powder and let it soak overnight (eight hours approximately). Boil the mixture for 10 minutes the next morning and allow it to cool completely; it should not even be warm.
Washing Your Face and Eyes with It
Once your triphala water has cooled down, strain it and store it in a bowl. Take some triphala water in each hand and place your cupped hands over each eye. While you immerse your eyes in this water, they should open up. Blink them a few times so that any impurities in your eyes get washed off with the water. Repeat thrice and rinse your face with fresh water. Pat it dry.
Relaxing Your Eyes
Take two slices of cucumber, a few rose petals and a few tulsi leaves. Put them in the fridge for 15 minutes so that they are cool enough to help your eyes relax. Lie down on your back and place any one of these ingredients on your closed eyes. Place a cotton ball soaked in cool rose water on them. You can also tie a soft muslin cloth around your eyes to intensify the treatment. Repeat with all the three ingredients.
Exercising Your Eyes
Once your eyes feel calm and decompressed, imagine something beautiful or try to focus on your breathing. Keeping your eyes still closed, slowly rotate them clockwise and then anti-clockwise. Follow it by rotating them to make a figure eight. Then move them downwards as if you are looking at your feet and then upwards like looking above your head. Follow it by moving your eyes left and then right, holding them in each position for a few seconds. Repeat the whole cycle for five times.
Doing this routine at the end of each day will provide your eyes with the much-needed rest and calm. When your eyes are strained, they will not fall prey to problems like dark circles and puffy eyes. Also, they will not be affected by all the strain put on them by your digital gadgets.
Remember not to use warm or hot triphala water on your eyes and do not splash the water into the eyes as it could hurt. If you have had an eye surgery or are fighting an eye infection, do consult your doctor before using this home remedy. It shouldn’t be used as an alternative to your doctor’s medical advice.
